Established in 2007 in the rural communities of Eastern Uganda, Busitema University is a multi-campus public institution specializing in science and technology. The University comprises six faculties: Engineering (Busitema Campus), Science and Education (Nagongera Campus), Agriculture and Animal Sciences (Arapai Campus), Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (Namasagali Campus), Health Sciences (Mbale and Kabwangasi Campuses), and Management Sciences (Pallisa Campus).

The University was established as a multicampus model with its main campus located at Busitema. Initially, the University started with two (2) Faculties namely, Faculty of Engineering at the Busitema campus and Faculty of Science and Education at the Nagongera campus. Faculty of Engineering (FOE)-Busitema Campus focuses on irrigation, mechanization, agro-processing among others, all geared towards value addition and competitiveness in critical National Development Priorities of Human Capital Development (NDPHC) and improved livelihood.
